Description
Odakota - Pryor Mustangs
This is Odakota born in 2014. Odakota was making sweet with the other woman on the tour, coming up quite close, then shyly backing off. When the woman backed up, Odakota rejoined his band and started horsing around with his brother, Naolin. So adorable to watch. He is a dun.
The Pryor Mustangs reside on Pryor Mountains in Wyoming and Montana. The herd of about 170 horses consists of several bands of stallions with mare(s) and offspring, bachelor bands. The herd has probably lived on the mountains since at least the late 1600s. The Pryor herd is verified by DNA analysis to be descended from Colonial Spanish Horses. The herd also has a higher than normal genetic diversity and low inbreeding. They are managed by the Bureau of Land Management. Every four years there is a count. Round-ups do occur, probably about every 4 years, and some horses are adopted. At that time, some mares are also given contraceptives.
