Description
I really love my photograph of this beautiful plump song sparrow. The greens of the background vegetation took on a magical quality with the use of the telephoto lens, while still capturing a sharp image of the bird, itself. I often hear the sparrows without really seeing them up close. They flit so quickly from branch to branch if approached.
Song sparrows are aptly named. They can sing up to 20 tunes and will repeat the same song over and over before switching to another song. I find it fascinating that they learn their songs from other birds. In addition they can recognize familiar birds with strangers based on the songs, and females can distinguish their mates from other birds.
They like brush areas and marshes. In this case, the song sparrow was hanging out very near to a river.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
I currently reside in Oregon, an environment rich in nature's graces. I have lived in California and New York, too, and everywhere there is a world of beauty around us, if we care to take the time and look for it.
